Ferry Tails --- Chapter 4

Here we are on the eve of a blog party for Skewered Halo and I am about to share with you the beginning of chapter four of Ferry Tails.....

Hope you are enjoying the book thus far....

The burning liquid warmed her inside all the way to her stomach. She wasn’t sure if that feeling was the hot liquor or the company. She hadn’t been on a date in over fifteen years and she was enjoying adult conversation. The waitress came by and Scott ordered a variety of items, speaking fluent Japanese.
“You don’t mind that I just ordered everything, do you?”
Shaking her head she said, “Not at all. I love this food but have no idea what to order.” She smiled at him and asked, “Do I want to know what you just ordered?”
He smiled back crookedly and replied, “Octopus, eel, sashimi and a few rolls.”
Diane tried not to look horrified. “Sounds great!” The extent of her experience with Japanese food included tempura, California rolls and teriyaki. She was much too embarrassed to mention that…especially now.
Scott poured them both another cup of sake, “We need to drink it while it’s hot. It really doesn’t taste that great when it cools down.”
“Okay,” she complied and drank the second cup. The warm burning sensation didn’t catch her off guard this time, but it still felt strangely warm winding its way through her body.
The waitress brought over a pot and two bowls. As she started to scoop the grayish goop into the bowls Scott said, “This is octopus soup. I have to say it is one of my favorite dishes here.”
Diane swallowed and asked, “Do you come here often?”
“Not as often as I’d like, but often enough to know what’s good.”
She looked into her bowl and tried to identify the contents. There were what appeared to be scallions, seaweed, peas and some sort of gray matter. Deciding that bravery was in order she placed her spoon in and scooped some into her mouth. The flavor exploded in her mouth! It was not like anything she’d ever experienced before. Her eyes widened in satisfaction.
“I take the look on your face to mean you like it?”
She nodded in acquiescence. The effect of the sake had begun to fuzzy up her brain. Words managed to escape her as she took another scoop. This time she bit into something rubbery. Not sure what it was she swallowed without thinking about it.
“So Robin, what do you do?” Scott asked as she was trying to eradicate the feeling of slimy going down her throat.
She looked at him and replied, “I’m a mom. I work as an office manager in an insurance office. I spend most of my time between work and home.”
He nodded and politely asked, “How old are your kids?”
“My daughter is nine and a half and my son is six.”
“Oh! Little ones.” He said.
“Is that bad?” She asked as she watched him pour another cup of sake.
He smiled at her and replied, “There is no bad age for kids. I have a son myself and I really miss the days when he was little.”
She heaved a huge sigh of relief when she heard that. “Everyone tells me to enjoy this time with them while they are young because it will pass by so quickly.”
“They’re right!”
The waitress brought out two more dishes. One was raw fish and the other was what appeared to be fried worms. Diane looked up at Scott expectantly.
He chuckled. “This one,” pointing to the fried worms, “is Anago, it is eel. And this is sashimi.” He said pointing to the slices of raw fish. “There is ahi, awabi, fugu and hamachi.”
“Okay,” she politely said.
“How spicy do you want your wasabi?” He asked.
Diane giggled. Now the effects of the sake had definitely removed her inhibitions. “I have to be honest with you Scott. I have no idea what you just asked me.”
He nodded and smiled. “You mean you agreed to Japanese food but haven’t really had it before?”

Friendship Friday - Make a Wish

Ramona over at Create With Joy hosts a weekly hop on Friday --- Friendship Friday ....

And every week she poses a question.
This week it is: Imagine that you were given the power to make one wish.
You could wish for anything (except more wishes!)

What would it be?

I actually read this last night and have been pondering on it for a few hours.... My wish would be simple really....

I wish that all people would treat all people with respect, dignity and courtesy. This would not be true just for the elite, or the rich or those who are religiously devout... no it would be true for ALL people.

Respect other people's choices
Dignity - keep your head up and rise above
Courtesy - EVERYone --- including the bus boys, dishwashers, janitors --- EVERYone deserves to be treated as an equal....

Can you even imagine if this wish came true?

How about you... what would you wish for?

Pondering with a Purpose - Stuck in a rut?

Welcome to Pondering with a Purpose -
Think on Thursday

This is my weekly hop where I post a prompt and you get to write to it on your blog - come back here and add it to my linky and then we all get to go read what you wrote!

I started Pondering with a Purpose because -- simply put -- I am a writer - - that is what I do (I just can't help myself)! And although I love following all the hops, I wanted to see if I could bring out some creativity in not only myself, but some of my blogger friends as well.

The rules are really easy:

1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge (in my sidebar)
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Come back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list below.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt:  Blogging Rut?

This came to me completely out of the blue and the more I thought about it the more I realized that I am probably not alone in this situation. Here's the dilemma I've facing, let me know if you agree, disagree, concur, feel the same, or think I've totally missed this one!

I started blogging .... well let's face it... I started a blog because that is what an author is supposed to do...right? And when I started blogging I had no idea what to blog about... but now I have a very set pattern as to what I blog about on certain days... and therein lies my problem.
PhotobucketPhotobucket

If I write a post that is out of the normal pattern I'm not sure where to put it, and I'm never sure if someone is going to read it... I mean do you post more than one thing a day? I try not to...but if (let's take for example) it's Saturday and I am writing my six word Saturday... everyone will come over and read that one.... but what if I want to write something that is more than six words? I can't very well incorporate it into that post...it would require a brand new one.

Like: What day of the week do I write book reviews? Or product reviews? Or award notifications? Or just ramble on and on about something if it isn't a Monday..... And what if I wanted to create my very own award and start passing it out... when would I do that (hey, I like that idea...)

I have discovered that it is very rare to get comments on more than one blog a day...maybe that is the flaw in blogger's design that once you go in to comment on a post the rest of the posts disappear... not sure. ME... if I head over to someone's blog I normally read the top one... you?

So...what's a blogger to do? Create a brand new blog just for the random posts I feel like posting in the middle of my schedule? I sure hope not! Or do I just write a really long post on the days I want to add something different? I tend not to read really long posts so I tend not to write really long posts... which lets me know that this one is pretty much done....

I'd love to hear your comments, or have you link up ... or better yet.... both!

Happy Pondering

Okay folks... hold on to your memory banks.... Although I LOVE the new shows... especially Revenge, Once Upon a Time, Body of Proof and Hart of Dixie...  I could not imagine living with those people for 30 days!!

So... what about Happy Days?

Or how about Bonanza?I could really see myself hanging out in the old west with the entire Cartwright family... besides the fact that they are completely easy on the eyes... life again seemed so much simpler back then.....
AND the early episodes were in black and white so it wouldn't matter what I wore!

BUT I would have to say that if I was going to spend a month of my life in television land... it would have to be with my favorite witch... Samantha....Nothing like the scary witches of today.... nope she was so REAL!!!

I spent hours trying to figure out how to wiggle my nose in just that perky fashion

AND if I can't get my wish and hang out with the Stevens'.... I would have to accept my second choice.....

The Folded Earth - A book Review

I am a member of Free Press Blog tours on Book blogs. This is a division of Simon and Shuster and although I haven't participated in a while, because there hasn't been a book that caught my fancy, I jumped at the chance to read Anuradha Roy's newest venture. If you recall I wrote a glowing review of An Atlas of Impossible Longing, stating it was one of my all time favorite books. So given a chance to read her next novel I didn't hesitate.

Here is what the byline said:

WITH HER DEBUT NOVEL, An Atlas of Impossible Longing, Anuradha Roy’s exquisite storytelling instantly won readers’ hearts around the world, and the novel was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post and The Seattle Times.
Now, Roy has returned with another masterpiece that is already earning international prize attention, an evocative and deeply moving tale of a young woman making a new life for herself amid the foothills of the Himalaya. Desperate to leave a private tragedy behind, Maya abandons herself to the rhythms of the little village, where people coexist peacefully with nature. But all is not as it seems, and she soon learns that no refuge is remote enough to keep out the modern world. When power-hungry politicians threaten her beloved mountain community, Maya finds herself caught between the life she left behind and the new home she is determined to protect. Elegiac, witty, and profound by turns, and with a tender love story at its core, The Folded Earth brims with the same genius and love of language that made An Atlas of Impossible Longing an international success and confirms Anuradha Roy as a
major new literary talent.
What I can tell you about The Folded Earth is this: Roy writes about life, loss and forbidden loves. Much the same as her first novel, but in this case she concentrates on varying characters. Her open door into the lives of the Indian culture, what is allowed, and what is not is brilliantly written. She brings the reader along for the ride with exotic descriptions and explanations. The twist in her ending is a tragedy and a relief, yet it leaves you wanting more. More descriptions, more debauchery and more forbidden love.

If you love her first book you will certainly enjoy this one as well!

I highly recommend it!

Mondays Musings --- Happy Earth Day!

Before I start with the regular musings I thought I would let you know......

There is an awesome review of Public Lies posted at my friend Donna's house:  My Life. One Story at a Time.: Public Lies by Brenda Youngerman
Go check it out... and thank you Donna!!!!

NOW onto the musings of the day. This weekend was Earth Day... did you do anything to celebrate? Take your own bags to the grocery store? Go to a parade? Hug a tree?

ME.... I decided it was time to get to know my front lawn a bit better.... You see I live in a small gated community and I am the first corner house. When I moved in (almost 3 years now) I was much more interested in making sure the flower beds looked great and pretty much ignored the lawn. It had weeds, but when I came home from a walk with the dogs on Saturday I noticed that there were more weeds than grass on the lawn... And not the nice weeds... but the mean one... PUNCTUREVINE!
They might look nice enough:

But when they dry up they leave behind these mean, nasty, tiny burrs that embed themselves into everything.... especially dog paws! Why is it that the snails don't eat these???
So for the first time since moving in I actually sat on my front lawn and pulled weeds. A little bit on Saturday and a little bit more on Sunday.

I figure if I tackle it a little bit a day I should have them all out of the lawn before they dry up.... so that was my contribution to earth day  :) happy

Other than that I spent most of Sunday writing. Cracked Cocoon is turning out to be a really good book! I am always amazed at what the characters tell me as they're developing.....

How was your weekend?

Sunday's Ferry Tails --- End of chapter 3

To continue with Ferry Tails --- second half of chapter 3.....

A claim was filed with the District Attorney in Vista Oaks, California and Lance’s last known address is Mississippi. Robin’s attorney did not hold out any false illusions. “The chances are that your ex-husband is in the wind and that we will never see another dime of child support coming from him.”
“What about my kids?”
“What about them?”
“What do I tell them?”
“It has been my experience that the spouses that say the least ‘poor’ things about the delinquent spouse end up winning in the long run. It is going to be very difficult to do that, I know, but your children will grow up and figure out what kind of a man their father really is. They don’t need you telling them what a piece of work he is!”
So when Christmas came around the second year Lance had been gone the kids barely even noticed. They’d settled into a routine of having no father around. Angel was only ten years old.

Scott entered their lives just after the beginning of 2007. He was a business professional that Robin had met through a mutual friend (that’s what they told everyone). In fact Scott and Robin met through a phone line off of a radio station. Robin had hesitated before calling in and giving her information but figured that if someone she met liked the same kind of music she did then they could start off a relationship with at least one mutual bond. She instantly received a phone message and loved the way his voice sounded. So she agreed to meet him in a public place.
Robin arrived first. She drove around looking for Scott’s car and didn’t see it. Finally after twenty minutes she realized she must have been stood up and then his car came flying into the parking lot. “Robin?” He asked.
She shyly nodded her head.
“I’m Scott; I’m so sorry that I’m late. I got caught up with work and didn’t notice the time.”
Instantly she was taken by how well he was dressed and just the mere fact that he realized he had made a mistake and apologized for it up front made her forgive him. “That’s okay,” she said. “I really only just got here myself.”
His smile warmed her to the core. “What kind of food do you like?”
Robin responded, “I’m fairly easy. There’s not much I don’t like.”
“Okay,” he said, “how about Japanese?”
“Sounds great!”
“Do you want to follow me? Or do you think I’m safe enough for you to get into the same car with?”
She pretended to think about it for a moment or two and then said, “I think you’re okay. You don’t look like a mass murderer to me; besides my mom knows where I was meeting you so if I don’t show up she’ll come looking for me.”
He laughed. “Okay, then come on, let’s go.” He opened the door for her to get into his car. When we came around and got in on the driver’s side he said, “Forgive the smell, I think I ran over a skunk.”
“Oh, it’s not that bad,” she commented.
They drove to a little Japanese restaurant she’d never heard of. The wait staff seemed to know Scott. He immediately ordered a bottle of sake. “Hope you like sake. I’ve found it just makes this food taste so much better!”
“Honestly I’ve never had it before.”
“Oh you’re going to love it!”
The sake arrived along with an appetizer of octopus and eel. Robin’s stomach lurched, but she didn’t want to make a bad impression. After all she hadn’t been on a date with anyone since high school and that felt like a lifetime ago. Scott poured sake into the tiny sake cups for both of them and said, “Here’s to new friendships.”
She clinked her small pottery cup against his and said, “Here’s to new friendships.” She swallowed the whole thing, as Scott did, and felt warm liquid flow down her throat.
“So what’d you think?”
She gasped, “Uh… I wasn’t expecting it to be hot.”
“So does that mean you didn’t like it?”
She shook her head, “No, I think I did like it,” and a wide smile crossed her face.

Friendship Fridays - Passion

I am once again joining Ramona over at Create-With-Joy for Friendship Friday

Each week she gives us a subject to discuss and go around and visit with our new friends (and old friends too!)

This week she wants to know what we are passionate about.

A Mother Duck, Left, Takes Her Ducklings for a Walk up a Flight of Cement StepsFirst and foremost I am passionate about my children. Motherhood changed me forever ... it gave me a sense of being and a sense of purpose. I realized that their lives were much more important than my own and I learned the art of self less ness. - I will never forget someone comparing a mother walking through a mall with her small children (and I have 3!) to a mother duck with her ducklings following. (Now that you know this check it out... it is so true!)

Buy This at Allposters.com

Another thing I am passionate about is ending the homeless situation .... Not that I have an answer for it... other than opening up more shelters and homes that they can call their own... Getting more funding from the government (who choose other causes first) ... And educating people about who and what the homeless are.
Henningsen: Evicted, 1890Yes, there is a portion of homeless people who are on drugs or are mentally unstable --- but that is not the case for all. We live in a very rough world and one bad choice can put you on the streets. Who of us has not made a bad decision before? Does that mean braving the elements, scrounging for food and begging become your only alternative? I don't think so... I look at these people and realize that most of us are just one paycheck away from being their neighbors. They are HUMAN beings who still deserve the respect of being treated as human.... AND ... while I'm on the subject ... why is it that so many people only think about the homeless at the holidays??? Hello..... they need to eat and be clothed 52 weeks of the year!!!

Buy This at Allposters.com

AND I am quite passionate about STOPPING abuse - of all kinds.
domestic abuse is where I started this soapbox from but it has grown into so much more since that! (Check out my website) .... There must be an end to the madness we call inhumanity... the list goes on and on .... domestic abuse, child abuse, elder abuse, pet abuse, racism, prejudices of any kind! Why is it so easy for so many people to be mean? Seriously, it is just as easy to be nice as it is to be mean  . . .  don't you think?

I hope you can join Ramona and all her friends to see what they are passionate about!

Have a great weekend......

Pondering with a Purpose - the blogging world

6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt:  The blogging world

Blogger friends vs 'real' friends

Buy This at Allposters.com

Woman Balancing on GlobeDo you find that your world of blogging does not incorporate the 'real' people in your life? What I mean by that is ... do you find that you start talking about your blog and all the things you do and those around you give you that blank stare.. or worse: the "What are you talking about?" look?

As I enter my third year of 'actively' blogging . . .  and 'not' having a typical author's blogsite I find that most of the people I deal with on a daily basis, or my family, have never once opened up the blog, are not bloggers, do not have the slightest idea what it takes to keep up a blog yet all have STRONG opinions about it!

One of my favorite times of the day (OOH did I say just one...oops... my bad!) is when I get the chance to hop around and go visit my friends. I talk to you guys more than anyone else in my life (with the exception of my kids!) - - and I find that you all know more about what's going on over here then they do! I have to wonder if that is really because I can pick and choose who and when I visit... and I can pick and choose who and where I want to go.

I'm sure most of you are reading this and shaking your heads in agreement... after all.... most of us got into blogging as an outlet of some sort and those of us who are part of this tight community (or my blogging family... and you know who you are!!!) find that we truly care about each other.  I know when a grand baby was born, when a couple is going away for a romantic weekend, when a person in someone's family passes away, when there is a diet to be fought, when there are battles that just aren't worth it anymore... and these friendships have become very important to me... SO how dare someone tell me that you are all not real??? You all seem pretty real to me!!!

Hand with GlobeWhat about you? Do you find that you live in two separate worlds? The 'real' world and the 'blogging' world?

Wordless Wednesday - New Cushion?

Coffee Chat - Movie Moments

Over at Leslie'shttp://amothersluv.blogspot.com house she is doing her weekly coffee chat.

This week's subject is movie moments and I have to say that her post is awesome!

When I am asked about movie moments that mean the most to me --- or that I actually remember for some reason they all involve my brothers!

Carrie PosterGreat example --- Carrie - you know that horror flick by Steven Spielberg - the original with Sissy Spacek. Well, apparently my brothers had already seen the movie when I went to see it so when the hand came out of the ground at the end.... one of them grabbed me.
Now this movie came out in 1976 --- which made me 16 --- to say the very least I jumped when he grabbed me --- I mean seriously... wouldn't you?

Star Wars - Original

Then there was Star Wars.... I distinctly remember going to a brand new theater to see this one... I tagged alone with my older brothers and their friends.  Again had to be 15 or 16... And this is what they said to me before the movie started: "This is critical! Every time you hear Obi Won you need to clap! If you don't you will be the only one in the theater not doing it."  Well of course I believed my big brother ... I mean who wouldn't, right?  Do I need to go further?

Buy This at Allposters.com

My other movie moments that I still can't shake from my mind:

The ending of the Way we Were --- I mean who didn't want to be in love with Robert Redford? and the two of them seemed SO perfect together --- I walked out of the theater with great big red splotchy eyes.

And how could you not mark the end of An Officer and a Gentleman as one of the greatest endings to a movie ever? Seriously... after everything that happened in that movie - I didn't see the ending coming at all.... I could not shake that one out of my head for weeks!

To me a great movie is one that lingers after it is over. The kind that make you think about the story and the characters...
Alice In Wonderland
Strangely enough one of the most recent movies I have seen has done the same thing to me....
Alice in Wonderland

Besides the fact that it had Johnny Depp.... (that never hurts!) .... I walked around for days remember that sad look on his face when he looked at Alice and said, "But you'll forget all about me."  Do you think that perhaps there is a wonderland and we are all just playing in a different world?

I know people who make it a point to go to the movies on a regular basis... me? I would rather watch them in the comfort of my own home so that if I hate it I can just turn it off...SO I am not really up on the latest movies....

BUT as a child and twenty something they definitely gave me a great escape from reality!

How about you? Movie moments?

Monday's Musings - Tax Day!

Happy 16th of April --- which just happens to be the next business day after the 15th of April... which makes today tax day~!  Did you pay your tax bill? Or did you get a refund? Which makes me wonder how those people who make so much money pay less (percentage wise) than I do!  What is wrong with this world????

Any how.... not the point of this post!!!!

My weekend... Friday was horrendous weather here in Southern California... albeit nothing like the midwest ..... wonder what would happen if the Southern California coast got tornadoes???? Wouldn't that just make huge water funnels and then cause even more problems??? Well.... we had rain, and thunder, and lightning and wind and it was cold!!! Which made me feel really bad for anyone who was living on the streets... For every time we complain about our situations it makes me realize how lucky I really am.... Even though luck has very little to do with as I work my butt off.... but that is not to say that I couldn't have taken a bad turn somewhere and ended up with nothing...  Which leads me to Saturday when I went back to the streets - - - - first time in two weeks so it was nice catching up with my 'friends'!

AND then Sunday morning my daughter left to go back to Germany.  My son in law deploys for Afghanistan in less than two months and then she will be back.  I cried when I gave my sil a hug good-bye and can't help but wonder what the heck we're doing over there in the first place!!!!  I also had to shake my head when I think about ME driving them to the airport when his parents live very close to me... why didn't they take him????  BUT oh well, mine is not to question why.....

As far as the two babies are going... they are doing very well... thank you for asking.... Here is there latest portrait  (and yes... that is MY bed!)

How was your weekend?

Ferry Tails - Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Robin and Lance were cordial to each other, making sure they were both included whenever an event involved the children. That was easy enough to do as Lance never planned anything for his children and would just appear in time to be seen if there was a party or school event.
At the birthday party for Bruce, in which all of his classmates, all of Robin’s family and friends attended, Lance took Robin aside. “I have some really exciting news!”
Robin could not care less about Lance’s news, but her kids were watching. “Really? What is it?”
“I just accepted a position in Mississippi. It is a huge opportunity for me and Sheila has agreed to go with me.” Sheila was the same woman Lance had been having the affair with so many years earlier.
Robin could not help but hide her surprise, “You what?” she asked.
“Keep your voice down Robin,” Lance said between gritted teeth. “Can’t you just once in your lifetime be happy for me?”
“Happy for you?” She chuckled, “you can’t possibly be serious when you ask me that question. I specifically turned down a job before Angel was born so that you could ‘keep rising’ at the office you were working for, only to have you leave that job as soon as I told you I was pregnant.
“You wanted to try your hand at something different and I supported every single one of your decisions. If that isn’t being happy for you, what is?”
Lance shrugged. “Do you have to turn everything into a huge fight? I simply wanted you to hear it from me before someone else told you. Sheila and I are getting married at the end of May and I start the new job on June 15th.”
“Well congratulations Lance! Where do your children fit into this equation? Not that it makes too much difference; you’re barely a part of their lives now!”
“I’ll let you know once I’ve settled in exactly what my plans are,” and he turned around and left…without even saying good-bye to either Angel or Bruce.

By the time Christmas rolled around the kids had stopped expecting to see their father. He’d managed to move to Mississippi and get himself in a community that did not accept children. “How could you do that?” Robin asked when she found out. “If they don’t accept kids you can never have the kids out for a visit.”
“Why would you think I would want them here?”
“Because they’re your children!” she said and slammed down the phone. That conversation occurred in October and she hadn’t spoken to him since then. On December 1 when the child support check did not arrive she tried his number only find that it had been disconnected.  She tried to get a hold of him through the company he went to work for and they said they’d never heard of a Lance Hughes.
Lance was a landscape architect and really did not have to work for another company at all; he could go into business for himself if that’s what he chose to do.

Tami from Empty Nest in Illinois.  Tami and I have so many things in common we often wonder if it possible that we lived the same life! When I first started following her I was stunned by some of the answers she gave as they were word for word what mine were. Now, I am just very happy to say she is my friend.  Hope you go check her out!

Hilary from Feeling Beachie --  Hilary and I have spoken several times on the phone and if there were ever a reason to go to New York it would be because of her.  She writes amazing posts about her, her husband and their adorable cat Alex.  Hilary was also the first person that read Skewered Halo as she was given a copy prior to it going to the publisher!  Hope you go check her out too!

Marti from Marti's Musings - I honestly don't remember how or when Marti and I met but she takes the most amazing pictures and her stories are wonderful..... Please go check her out!

Friendship Fridays - Surprise!

Well it is Friday and I have gotten so used to joining in with Friendship Fridays over at Create with Joy that when I went to write my post this morning and Ramona had not put it up yet I was a bit sad.... :(
but then I received an email from her letting me know that the post was up and even more exciting!

I am the friend of the week!

so once again.....

I am joining Ramona at Create With Joy for Friendship Friday - her weekly hop where she poses a subject and we get to meet new friends along the way... (You really need to go check this out!) This week's subject is Surprise - when was the last time someone surprised you?

Well... that is quite easy because it just happened this morning.... being Friend of the Week on Create with Joy is such a great surprise --- and an honor.

Before that the biggest surprise I got was when a bouquet of flowers arrived at my house on my birthday from my daughter and son in law.... I was not expecting that at all!

I am not the easiest person to surprise because I am usually three steps ahead of everyone else!

How about you? When was the last time you were surprised?  Write up a post and come join me at Friendship Friday.

Pondering with a Purpose - Listening?

Think on ThursdayWelcome to Pondering with a Purpose -

Have fun!

This Week's prompt:  Listening

Are you a listener?
or are you a talker?

I am most definitely a listener and prefer not to talk...that way if I have something to say people really listen to me. I have discovered that most people who are talkers are very poor listeners because they are constantly trying to get the last word in... and they are so busy thinking about what they're going to say when you're done that they're not listening at all....Lend Me Your Ear

Buy This at Allposters.com

I know this because my mother is a great talker... and then I made the mistake of marrying a great talker... I guess when everything you say goes in one ear and out the other for the person you are spending time with you learn not to talk anymore. Now don't get me wrong... I can carry on a perfectly fine conversation... but I really don't want to get into a heated discussion about what's on the table, or what time of the day the dogs should be fed... you know what I mean? AND then of course there is the course where it does not matter what you DO... you are going to hear about what you could have done better.... So after a while you get to the point of doing what makes you happy and not having a conversation about it ... at all!

My mother still says, "Can I give you advice?" or "You know what I think?"  I really need to grow a pair and say, "No thank you!" but I was raised in an age where you respect your parents... even if they don't respect you....

I guess you could say I have morphed into a listener... not sure that I started out that way ... in fact I remember getting into trouble in school for talking TOO much.... hmm... wonder where that girl went?

I would love to hear (ha ha ha) your two cents on this subject....
Leave me a comment,
Write a post and link up...
or Better yet... both!

Happy Pondering
