Six Word Saturday - Party!!

Meet more of my party guests!

Patty from Books, Thoughts and Few Adventures - you never know what you'll read at Patty's house... but you can always count on something about Lucy. I think that Lucy and Muttley are related... they just don't know it! AND Patty?
Well Patty is the very first person who ever followed me via email and we have actually become friends.... I'm not really sure if she's participating in this blog tour because I don't want to infringe upon our friendship... but I would love it if you went on over and checked her out anyway!

BocaFrauSusi from Boca Frau - Susi's blog is full of stories of life as a Mommy.... AND she just became a US Citizen... YAY!! there are always so many beautiful pictures and great stories to read about on  her blog.
She also just bought a Signed Copy of Skewered Halo for the party (Thank you!) .... I'm sure you'll love her site once you go and it will become a regular stop for you, just as it has for me.

Donna from My Life. One Story at a Time - Donna and I have 'known' each other for quite a while but I would have to say that I just recently began really following her blog. She spends a great deal of time reviewing books - which is how I first met her - and she does a very thorough job. She also has great stories to tell and they all appear on her beautiful blog. I really hope you take the time to go spread some love her way...

And if you haven't already signed up for the party --- that's okay --- just remember it is April 30th! Get yourself a copy of Skewered Halo and post your response (maybe even write a review) - and link up on that day!!

Want to play along? All that's necessary to participate is to describe your life (or something) in a phrase using just six words. For more information, go to Show My Face. and Cate explains it all....feel free to explain or not explain. Add an image, a video, a song, nothing.

Last Friday in March - Follow me!

Friendship Friday again... and I met so many new friends last week and I can only hope that I meet more today.
This is a weekly hop from Create With Joy and this week the subject is Rainy Days.

What do I like to do on Rainy Days.... Well first .. before anything else I light the fire so my house gets that warm, snuggly, cozy feel...
Then I make myself a cup of hot chai tea with Vanilla cream ... I don't know how or when that became my favorite for rainy days... but it did.
Then, it is definitely onto the couch with my favorite cuddly toy.  We end up either putting in a movie, or reading a book, or working on the computer.
I seem to get my best writing done on rainy days... go figure... my creative juices must be at their best!
How about you? What do you like to do on a rainy day?  Hook on up with Friendship Friday and let everyone know!

I'm also joining Hilary at Feeling Beachie for Friday Four Fill In fun
My answers are underlined!
1.       I loved A good rainstorm as a kid and still do.
Photobucket2.       I drive way TOO much!
3.       I am currently reading Lowcountry Punch -- and it is great!
4.       I wish I could instantly have a body just like Cindy Crawford

And last... but not least I am hopping along with Let Them Eat Cake --
That Friday Blog Hop

Pondering with a Purpose - Blogging

Welcome to Pondering with a Purpose -

This is my weekly hop where I post a prompt and you get to write to it on your blog - come back here and add it to my linky and then we all get to go read what you wrote!

I started Pondering with a Purpose because -- simply put -- I am a writer - - that is what I do (I just can't help myself)! And although I love following all the hops, I wanted to see if I could bring out some creativity in not only myself, but some of my blogger friends as well.

The rules are really easy:

Think on Thursday1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge (in my sidebar)
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Come back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list below.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt:  Blogging

If you weren't spending so much time writing and reading blogs, what do you think you'd be doing with your time?

This is a difficult question for me to answer.... so I can only assume it would be a difficult one for you as well. I did not jump right into blogging and LOVE it right off.... in fact I really had a tough time with it. I have a blog that is on my website and I would write posts there, but I had no idea how to drive traffic to my site and I really didn't believe that anything I had to say was important. It sort of felt like writing in my journal... but edited so the whole world could read it. I switched over to Blogger in October 2010 and even then I hesitated and would write things wantonly..... It wasn't until Michelle got married in December 2010 that I started writing every day - or at least every other day. I guess I realized that writing was a way of dealing with the changes going on around me, even if I didn't write about them specifically.

NOW - I am constantly on my blog --- or yours!! I feel like we have our own little world that non-bloggers cannot fathom - sort of like a club. I really can't imagine not blogging and touching base with each and every one of you on a regular (okay semi-regular) basis. But I suppose my number one answer would be reading a lot more --- I find that I really don't read as much as I used to, and that sort of makes me sad.... Maybe I need to cut down the blogger time?  (Not going to happen). I also know for a fact that if I didn't spend as much time on my blog my books would get written faster... but seriously ... one a year is okay by me.

So, how about you? What would you do instead?
I'd love it if you left a comment, or wrote a post and linked up... or better yet, both!

Happy Pondering

Wednesday Award Day!

I have been nominated for two different awards and have not been quite as diligent as I would like in posting them and sharing the love... (But better late than never... right?)
First I received the Tell Me About Yourself Award from my friend Susi at Boca Frau...she is a gifted blogger who took to it like a duck to water and I LOVE reading about her adventures.... Not sure what she has about vampires.... but oh well, I can overlook that :)

1. Thank the person that nominated you and link back to their blog.
2. Tell the world 7 things about yourself that you have not shared, yet.
3. Nominate 7 fellow bloggers and let them know.
Seven thing about me:
1.  I am the youngest daughter of the youngest daughter of the youngest daughter.

The Candle Lighter Award is given to recognize “anyone who lights the world with their work”.
This is such a special award and I cannot thank you enough for it! We often forget the people we touch by doing our daily visits and 'chats' but this award has great meaning to me ... Thank you!

Coffee Chat - Random Thoughts

My friend Leslie has this Tuesday Coffee Chat where she puts up a subject and we all write about it... sort of like my Pondering with a Purpose blog....  This week her subject was random thoughts and I figured I would write this post before I read anyone else's just in case our thought waves got crossed somewhere....

What I think about randomly is this:

Why do the first roses of the season end up being cut and put in a vase on my table and by the end of the season I leave them on their bushes to die?

And why does a vase full of Irises look so much prettier than when they grow in the wild?

How come I have a 9+ year old dog who still acts like a puppy?

AND when did it become okay for her to take up more than half of the bed?

Why is there so much traffic... for no apparent reason?
California, Los Angeles, Freeway Traffic in Los Angeles City

California, Los...

How come the tide is never LOW when I want to go to the tide pools?

And of course.... what's the secret to everlasting love? (Oh.... I know this one.... marry your best friend!)

Monday's Musing - Last Monday in March

Before I start with the musings.... go check out my guest post on The Laughing Housewife

Can you believe one fourth of this year is over? I can't... it seems like it was just Christmas and here we are in Spring! What is going on?

Here in Southern California we were hit with another late winter storm... It came rolling in on Sunday. My sons are in Santa Barbara and they awoke to heavy rainfall... It didn't hit Los Angeles until around noon... which meant that I had time to get in my REALLY long walk along the beach before the rain...

Believe it or not... this is the sun... not the moon!

I took the picture with my phone and I was stunned when I actually saw what came out.. it looks like a night shot...but it isn't.

Ms. Muttley and I took a long walk... so long that when we got home she disappeared into the dog house for a while to catch her breath.... I can't honestly say I remember that happening before...so either we took a really long walk or my dog is getting old.....

As you can see... the horizon is completely flat!

Within 30 minutes of arriving home the rain decided to fall... and it came down in torrents...

YAY! We really needed it....

SO... I took to the kitchen... made potato salad, egg salad, potato soup and enchiladas. Guess my work is done for the week :)

How about you... how was your weekend?

Sunday Ferry Tails - 0.5

To continue with the saga..... here is the second half of Chapter 1.... if you missed the first half... simply go here~

Happy reading!

Robin didn’t know what to think! How could someone be so perfect for me and read my mind with everything I am looking for in a man? She immediately wrote back to ‘Goose53’, after all he lived only thirty five miles from her and that was not too far to start a relationship.
All I can say is ‘wow!’ I am so sorry for the loss of your wife and it must be terribly hard to have your daughter be so far away from you. I personally know that my children are my grounding points and I would be so sad if any one of them was off in a foreign country.
Thank you so much for responding to my profile, I wasn’t expecting anything quite this soon, but it seems like you and I share similar interests. I would love to hear more about what you do on a daily basis. You can send me an email at R4ver@rocketmail.com.
I look forward to hearing from you soon… by the way … my name is Robin, what’s yours?

The next day there was a message in her private email from donald4u1470@yahoo.com. She didn’t recognize the address but the subject line said: For my one and only. Her heart started beating rapidly as she opened the email.
Hello my darling. It seems like I have been searching for you for so long and here you are. It is like a dream come true. I have looked over your profile so many times I think I have memorized it .. lol.. I just cannot believe that a person so genuine and beautiful as you are exists. My name is Jim McDonald and I truly believe that God has brought us together. I look forward to hearing from you soon so we can get to know each other better. If you want, we could start chatting on Yahoo Messenger. My name there is donald4u1470.
Until we talk…..
Ever yours, Jim.

Robin went into the messenger application and set herself up as she had never been there before. She really didn’t know what to expect, but she was excited.
The next morning there was a message that Jim Donald had requested to be her ‘friend’. She quickly accepted the request and then went to work. When she returned home she saw that she had a message.
Hello Darling,
I have been thinking about you all day. How was your day? I really hope that we can chat soon. Tell me when you will be here and I will make it a point to be here too.
Robin immediately typed back, Jim I will be here around 6:00 to see if you are here…. Until we chat.. Robin

Friday --- What a week!

I found this new blog.... and I Love it!
Create with Joy... Live with Passion and there is a Friday hop.... Friendship Friday ...

Every week there is a new topic and this week it is Day Trippin' or where would you like to go for a day trip?

Well...that is really an easy answer for me... and sorry that I'm sharing the same picture twice in one week... but I love the Tide pools and that was one of the reasons I moved to where I currently live.... so if I actually had a free day .... this is where I'd be heading.

And then of course my day would have to end with one of these:

If I lived somewhere that got more rain I'm sure I would be inclined to go search out quite a few of these:

And that would actually be my ideal day trip.... a waterfall... with tide pools (ha ha ha .... no such thing!) that ends with a beautiful sunset over the ocean.....

How about you?  What's your idea of a perfect day trip?

AND now on to my Friday Four Fill in Fun with Hilary over at Feeling Beachie

Pondering with a Purpose - Communication

Welcome to Pondering with a Purpose -
Think on Thursday This is my weekly hop where I post a prompt and you get to write to it on your blog - come back here and add it to my linky and then we all get to go read what you wrote!

I started Pondering with a Purpose because -- simply put -- I am a writer - - that is what I do (I just can't help myself)! And although I love following all the hops, I wanted to see if I could bring out some creativity in not only myself, but some of my blogger friends as well.

The rules are really easy:

Have fun!

This Week's prompt:  Communication methods

Letters?
Email?
Phone call?
Chat Room?
Text?

US Mail Bag With Posted Envelopes OverflowingWhich method of communication do you prefer? And is it the one that you find you are using the most?

I find that the art of writing a letter has been lost - or not -- I suppose it depends on your circumstances. When my SIL was in basic training my daughter and he wrote letters to each other every day. They now have them in a box to save for all of posterity.... Now that he will be leaving for Afghanistan I believe the letter writing will start again.

Buy This at Allposters.com

Isn't it funny when you realize that --- not that long ago --- this was the most affordable method of communicating with someone that didn't live close by.  I remember as a child writing stories with my cousins... we would write a paragraph... mail it to each other and go back and forth until the story was done...

But the art of letter writing has been usurped by email.. or has it? Do you find that you write letters to someone in an email? I do... I have been known to spill my heart out on the web (email) and then sit impatiently waiting for a response --- not quite as fun as waiting by a mailbox!!

And then of course there are the chat rooms - or messenger applications.... You know what I'm talking about... Facebook has one, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, etc. --- I used to use the one on Facebook quite often, but then I realized that it was distracting from what I was trying accomplish on Facebook so now I actually don't use these - at all - I don't know why, but for some reason I feel like the whole world can read them... (isn't that silly?)

AND... when was the last time you picked up the phone to talk to someone? That seems to be 'old-fashioned' now but there is nothing like talking to someone. Sometimes you can learn something just from an accent, or a nuance, or just the way people talk that you would not otherwise be able to discern. NOW ... with all that being said.... I speak to my children all the time... they used to send me text messages to have conversations with me but then they discovered that I am text message challenged. It does not matter how hard I try to do this I make mistakes when I text... (Someone needs to invent a text message editing program!!!)

With all that being said I have to say that I recently had my first lengthy conversation via texting... and it was really fun! NOW that does not mean that I didn't send messages that made no sense.. because I did... and then I caught them and sent and addendum with an 'oops...'  What I did discover from this exercise is that it is a lot like 'chatting' --- you might be responding to a message and another message comes in... what does the other person think you are talking about when they get a response to three messages earlier? So sometimes extra clarification is required...  BUT the really huge advantage to text messaging someone is that you can actually have a private conversation with someone when they are in a public place... only problem with that is when you literally Laugh Out Loud and someone gives you a dirty look...... BUT it is so addicting... the other thing I've noticed about texting is that a conversation will just end... no awkward pauses, no lull... just ends!

SO...how about you? Which mode of communication do you use the most and is it really the one you prefer or is it just more convenient?  I'd love to hear your comments...or have you write a post and link up... or better yet...BOTH!

Happy Pondering

Coffee Chat - Spring has Sprung!

Happy Tuesday all.... Tomorrow is the official first day of Spring and over at my friend Leslie's place she does a weekly coffee chat and this week her subject is all about Spring... so I decided to share my garden....
Here in California most people think we just have palm trees by the beach... well that is sort of true.... but we have a lot more than that!
I have always heard that daffodils are the first flower of the spring and although I've always wanted to plant them (wonder why I never have?) I don't have any in my yard....

BUT.... forever (I do mean forever) I have grown up with freesias growing. My mom apparently grabbed the bulbs for these when she was first married and has taken them with her ever since.  Well... when I moved in a house I grabbed some and planted them and then when I moved in 2009 I dug them up and brought them with me....  These are the first blooms of Spring around my house!

When I moved into my house my front yard was full of ivy and hideous plants.... I ripped them out and planted a flower garden...Here is the side of the house - now 2-1/2 years old: Those geraniums are in bloom pretty much year round... but right now they are especially plentiful.

To add to this wonderfulness I discovered live plants at the 99 cent store a few weeks ago.... and I just couldn't resist my children's favorite flowers.... Snapdragons.

I also found mini rose bushes.... I have now dotted my landscape with these as well.....

What I hadn't counted on in my new environment was snails!!! And I have hundreds of them.... I put poison in the front yard... not that it helps.. but I'm afraid to do that in the back yard because of Muttley.....

NOW... for the absolute cap to this spring fling... I try to have a vase full of fresh cut flowers in my house at all times... Even in the winter. I'm not sure why.. but that always makes feel better.....

I love to dig up things in the garden... I remember someone once telling me that putting your hands in the dirt grounds you.... I thought that was so strange... but I do have to say that if I'm in a really crappy mood sticking my hands in the dirt and doing something in the yard does brighten me up!

Happy Springtime!!

March 18, 2012

Mondays Musings - MAN it was windy!

It was a dark, stormy, windy afternoon...
OH wait a minute, I'm not writing a book... I'm writing about my weekend. Tee hee hee....

Saturday: It was a dark, stormy windy morning that had me out on the streets of Los Angeles feeding the homeless even though it was pouring!! The strangest thing is that we would get a torrent of rain and then it would drizzle. The heavy stuff did not last that long, but the wind... that was ferocious. We opened the door to the van to get the food and rain came flying in (literally flying in!) But... I am not complaining.... I have a place to go home to when I was done... and I did. I dried myself off and settled down on my couch to write... and I lit the fireplace to warm up my house...

BUT someone wanted to go for a walk...

I put her leash on her and opened the front door and she came to a screeching halt! It was wet outside.... doesn't it make you wonder if they realize that the backyard and the front yard are both outside???  We managed to get a mile in before it started to rain again.... luckily it was just light rain.

I was so glad the house was already warm!!

I settled myself back down to write and then ended up having a VERY long conversation with someone (:) happy) and lost complete track of the time.... During that time the sky cleared up....

I woke up in the middle of the night to hear the bulk of the storm pass through...

Then Sunday it was SOOO windy.... Although we managed to get in a three mile walk, my head was down and my hood was up!! I lost power in the house four different times and gave up resetting the clocks! BUT... between outages I managed to make really good headway on Cracked Cocoon... and if you missed the post about Ferry Tails make sure you go check it out!

I also squeezed in a pot of homemade soup and southern fried chicken......

I love horrible weather!!

How was your weekend?

Musings.....Ferry Tails

SO... I have been doing a LOT of thinking about my blog and what I want it to do and say. I spent a while trying to figure out the new look (thank you to all who have complimented it!) and what I wanted people to see as soon as they open the window. My main drive (obsession) is writing... that seems to be where I am these days. If I'm not writing I'm thinking about what I should be writing, but I don't want to have a 'typical author' blog where ALL I talk about is books. (Mine in particular).

This is my new idea - - - I thought it would be fun to write a book together - - -  I will post one half of a chapter every Sunday and then if you have anything you would like to see in the future, or changed in the present, or anything... leave me a comment. If you're shy and want your ideas to be private send me an email. THEN when the book is completed I will publish it as an eBook only --

The subject of this book is going to be romance scamming - and it is called Ferry Tails. I had mentioned this book in the past but due to the inner character in my head, Cracked Cocoon took precedence and Ferry Tails was shelved. The biggest problem here is that there are four different books running around in my head right now and they keep having collisions with each other.... :)

So.... without further ado.... Here is the beginning of Ferry Tails:

She opened the browser and entered http://findyourflame.com. She’d only heard great things about this internet dating site and after seven years of being alone she was ready to try her hand at love again.
The website had a beautiful montage of couple success stories and after reading through a few of them Robin knew this was the right place for her. Find Your Flame guaranteed discretion and promised results. She clicked the register here link.
Signing up for the service was a fairly easy process.

Description (maximum 2500 characters, let the other person know what kind of person you are): Robin thought long and hard about this entry before she started typing and then she entered:
I am very energetic, spontaneous, and young at heart. I enjoy all outdoor activities, summer and winter alike. Keeping in shape, staying active and having fun are my goals in life.
I am here to find my love, my second half… Love is a part of my life… I am family-oriented person and that’s why I want to have a serious relationship. I think that it’s the highest point of happiness when you can see how each of us is smiling and laughing…
Your Ideal Match: I want my future man to be intelligent and kind. I think that my Man should be caring. It’s very important in our life, because all of us need someone who can give us support. I hope I will find my love here!
She signed up for a six month contract and set up her email address to receive alerts if someone was interested in her. Then she began browsing the site for men that fell within the criteria for which she had set for her search. There were quite a few men that caught her eye. She felt like a kid in a candy store with so many choices. Unsure of herself she simply marked them as ‘interested’ but did not send out emails or requests for more information.

The following afternoon Robin was excited to open up her profile on the site and find a email from someone.
Hello,
I am new to this dating thing and am willing to share my love and life with a caring and loving woman who is also ready to give her love and have mine in return too, About myself, I felt its important at this point to let you know the personality of me .  My name is Jim Donald. My mom is a Hispanic American born.  As regards to my educational background, I attended Limerick University in Ireland, where I obtain my masters Degree in first class as a civil engineer. ....I was once married to a loving, caring, honest and sincere woman until death came and took her away from me...My Believe is that there's a woman out there that can help me find that Love and affection again. Someone who is understanding, kind, has a good sense of humor, loving, caring, honest, sincere, passionate and affectionate woman who also believes in God.  The Bible says, "Seek the Kingdom of God first and every other thing shall be added on to you."  So I've sorted the kingdom of thy Lord and I'm waiting for one of my other things and that's my Dream woman. I believe when I have a woman that has the fear of God she would not hurt my feelings and emotion which I have for her. Most people don’t know what it takes to hurt another once feelings and emotion and how it feels, so I'm not into playing games.
I have one lovely daughter and her name is Linda...Of course, my daughter is my pride and joy. She is a very sweet 19 year old with a good heart. She likes to be active and try new things. Although she lives away from me.....she now lives and goes to college in Germany.
I am confident without being cocky, arrogant, or egotistical. I am polite, courteous, and respectful. I like to laugh and make people laugh, I like to play golf, basketball, softball, boat, water ski, snow ski, scuba, camping, running, or just relax, take a bike ride or walk and enjoy a star filled night. I like to meet someone that likes live music, or quiet romantic nights. I am looking for someone that is confident and comfortable with herself. Someone that likes to have fun and enjoy all that life has to offer. A smile and a positive attitude are must! I believe that balance and compromise are the name of the game. I am an easy going person; loving, caring, understanding, romantic, affectionate, and passionate. I prefer to go for long walks with someone who's company and conversation I enjoy, having a nice quiet dinner or going to see a good movie, sitting on a porch enjoying a warm summer night with a glass of wine (it doesn't get any better than that) or having a cookout and bonfire with good friends.
Basically that's all about me for now unless if you're willing to know more, then you can ask! Meanwhile I'll love to know more about yourself also...I think at this stage you should be able to figure out the kind of person you are talking to...I will want you to get back to me with more details about yourself too and also any picture of you. Also I will be waiting to chat with you online too.
I hope to hear from you soon.
