Two Shoes Tuesday - Blue

TWO SHOES TUESDAYJoining Josie for another version of Two Shoes Tuesday.... every week she gives us a word and asks that we share a short story, poem, essay, thought, or photo relating to that topic.

this week the topic is: BLUE

What an interesting word for a topic. Of course the first thing I think of is that my entire living area is painted in four different shades of blue. This is the first home I have lived in where I dared to paint the walls anything other than white. I took a big risk and it has paid off in so many ways. I am the most comfortable in my little living room and I know it has to the do with the soothing colors on the walls.

When I was younger if you had asked me what my favorite color is the answer would have been a resounding blue... but as I have grown over the years I have favored green much more. Although my living area is blue, my bedroom is green. Considering that green comes from blue I have not strayed too far.....

BUT... after contemplating the actual color a bit I realized that this topic took my mind in another direction as well. Blue.... the way we feel when we are not completely happy.... is that a state of mind? And why is it that we are blue when we are sad and no color comes to mind when we are happy.

I remember learning about the colors and how red, orange and yellow were warm colors and blue, green and purple were cool colors. I tend to stay away from those warm colors... does that lend itself to being more blue?

And here's a ponder for you on this Tuesday.... how many colors can you come up with that actually have more than one meaning?

Thanks for hosting Josie!

  1. A great post, Brenda! You had me smiling because my living room/kitchen/hallway/front bath are also a lovely shade of pastel blue chosen by my husband! This was the first house he's ever had where he was free to choose the colors and he did it so well. I love the blue (with white trim and grey and chocolate accents), it is indeed soothing and peaceful! Your living room in four shades of blue sounds lovely! We get braver as we grow older, step outside of that box a bit, don't we?! :-) I liked your pondering questions too. I have always seen bright yellow (one of my favorites) as the color of sunshine and joy. Though our culture tends to think of it as being sickly or cowardly. Seeing red... well that's an easy one to figure out! Pink has become synonymous with breast cancer awareness in everyone's mind, and white, maybe no longer as much associated with purity as it might be for light and awareness. Thank you bunches for participating in Two Shoes Tuesday! I'll be around to ponder with you Thursday this week, life overtook blogging the last week. Sigh

  3. love your blue walls...I am 50 Shades of boring beige over here. Ugh, it's everywhere in our main open space. which is why it hasn't been changed yet. All the bedrooms are each person's favourite - except the master which is currently a sickly shade of olive green. I want green....just not that shade.

When I think of happiness and energy bursting forth, I automatically think orange shades. Which oddly makes me think of an actual orange too -- and biting into that sweet, juicy freshness. You know...like taking a bit out of life and finding it tastes good.

    1. ha ha ha... have you read the book ????
I was surrounded by beige in my old house and swore not to do it again... but with kids it is the easiest way to keep things moving!!!

Orange and burst of energy??? never thought of it that way.. .but it makes sense.

  5. While red attracts my attention and is found in my home in shades of claret and such, blueish kinda reds, blue is my favorite color, indigo blue, to be precised. For me, it is happiness, but in a serene way, not a jumping for joy all over the place kind of thing. A quiet happiness running strong, like an undercurrent. And it evokes for me exotic sounds, smells and shapes. Being blue, I see grey, murky shades, and back when I used to keep a fragrance wardrobe, I wore Perry Ellis eau de toilette. Now, I wear only one fragrance, Varvatos, which suits me in my many moods...

    1. reds with blues are still considered blues in my book!!!
and I agree... blue brings about a shade of calm, serenity that the other colors just don't have.

I too used to use many different fragrances... and now stick to just one as well.....

  6. I love yellows all shades it gives me a warm feeling a sunny feeling but thru the years in different homes & clothes it never accomplished that from painting the wall a cheery yellow or wearing it in a top ?? Not sure why but when I opted to paint my bathroom brown my hubs cringed it said it would be too cave like & dark NOPE I have found with brown it gives a warmth & comfort in clothes & on the walls hmmm maybe that is why chocolate is so loved?? Would it be as tasty if it was say the color red?? Great Post Brenda as always you make me ponder even on days other than Thursday LOL ~Janice~

  7. Hi Brenda ~~ Nice post, Brenda. Moodring.png should tell you the colors coresponding the various moods. Besides that, I will pick black with different meanings for stock market behavior. Black days are doom, we've had Black Monday, Thursday, and Friday in recent history. Black Friday follows Thanksgiving for a good shopping day.
