Pondering with a Purpose - lost talent

Welcome to Pondering with a Purpose -
Think on Thursday This is my weekly hop where I post a prompt and you get to write to it on your - come back here and add it to my linky and then we all get to go read what you wrote!
I started Pondering with a Purpose because -- simply put -- I am a writer - - that is what I do (I just can't help myself)! And although I love following all the hops, I wanted to see if I could bring out some creativity in not only myself, but some of my blogger friends as well.

The rules are really easy:

1. Grab the Pondering with a Purpose Badge (in my sidebar)
2. Look at the week's prompt
3. Post something on your blog that relates to the prompt - it can be a story, a poem, a picture -- anything you want it to be.
4. Come back here and add the URL from your post to the linky list below.
5. Go check out the other bloggers who have added their links to the list.
6. AND most of all.... Have fun!

This Week's prompt: Talented?

Do you do something... that you learned in school or as a child... that your children have no idea how to do?

I was so proud of myself when I learned how to type by touch.. on a manual typewriter at 85 wpm. My kids use two fingers! do they even teach touch typing anymore? Or 10-key? I remember my first job was typing up available rentals for a rental agency. I used an electric typewriter and it was done on 'stencils'. Not the kind of stencils we use today to paint pretty pictures! I got the job because I could type so fast. And then I went on to get a job in a real estate office where my 10-key skills came in quite handy. Do they teach that anymore?

How about sewing or cooking? I took both of those in school... and I taught my own kids how to cook.... let's just leave it as, "Mom can you fix this?" in the sewing department.

So what I want to know is this: Is there some talent you have that your kids just don't have, or even care about?

I'd love to hear your comment, or read your linked up post... or better yet... both!

Happy Pondering.

  4. I don't have children but do know in days past, the Commonwealth of Virginia gave typing tests and, in order to get a job, one had to type a minimum of 35 wpm. I used to laugh because that's two finger typing but then began meeting people who couldn't pass the typing test.
    Very sad!
I'm not sure what they teach in schools nowadays. Around here, it's mainly SOL's and certainly not how to think.

  5. When I know my children are going to drop by, I always have a batch of fresh cookies. I have given them the recipes but they say it just tastes better when I make them. I guess it my secret ingredient--love. Have a good weekend.

  6. oh you, you are so cleverly timely with this pondering post today.
forcing me to face an ugly-just-learned-truth about myself.
but because I love ya so, I am going to post it and shame myself. just for you. LOL

  7. 10-key, are you referring to the number pad? If so, I've heard it referred to as 9-key but not 10-key, but 10 makes sense because of the zero. Working for Blockbuster I got used to that as I had to manually enter videos during inventory by their SKUs. Not fun at all but I would run through them like it was noboby's business. Couldn't tell you what my speed is though. I used to type with just one finger and could do it pretty quick, but I can do it faster now with 2 and never look at the keyboard! :)
