SOOoooo.... over at my friend Rory's aka Leslie at Time Out For Mom she is doing her Tuesday Coffee Chat topic on Movies that make you go..... (and that is literally go -- as in out ....) [Yes.... I know today is Wednesday!]
So... I have this thing about sequels that should never have been made .....
First on my list:
Dirty Dancing - Havana Nights - NOW why would anyone WANT to make another movie after the original?

Better question? Why would anyone think they could ever make a movie that would stand up to the original? Well the obvious answer answer is that they didn't...... Enough said!Second:
The Exorcist - the Beginning --- REALLY? The beginning was the original - probably the scariest movie anyone of my generation has ever seen! Why .. again that word! would anyone think that they could make a PREquel???

The last one on my list for today is Speed 2 - Cruise Control - - now seriously ---- the original was SO much better - why would anyone want to ruin it's reputation with such a crappy sequel???
How about you --- what movies did you go ????? Seriously ???
Link on up at Rory's place!

i think they remade dirty dancing so that the new generation could experience it, but i couldn't even bring myself to watch it. Also footloose 2, for real?????
ReplyDeleteexcellent choices, excellent! completely agree with all of them. Especially Speed 2 - I mean even Keanu - who everyone assumes is the dumbest actor ever, had enough sense not to sign on to this dismal repeat.
ReplyDeleteI was actually considering doing a follow-up that was specifically for crappy sequels. Great idea. Thanks for joining the chat.
Ha! I didn't even know there was a second Dirty Dancing. I am proud to say I have not watched any of the movies you listed :)
ReplyDeleteJennifer - I think you're right... but seriously --- it was sooooo bad!
ReplyDeleteRory ---- thank you ....
Meg - - - you didn't miss much!
I agree with all 3 of those. I have never (and never will) watch the second Dirty Dancing.
ReplyDeleteTami - You won't be missing much!
DeleteROFL, you are so right with all of those. I've seen all three LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm SOOOO sorry :(
DeleteLOL. I saw none of those follow ups but have to agree. You just don't follow up a classic with crap. Leave well enough alone and let them stand all on their own.
ReplyDeleteSERIOUSLY... why ruin a classic?
DeleteI am glad I am not the only one clueless about a dirty dancing sequl!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of these movies so I can't comment on them. I'm trying to think of what movies I have seen this year and if any of them were remakes. I think the remake of The Titans was pretty lame... but then so was the original.
ReplyDeleteThere was a movie that I watched once called Tornado! Yes it was called Tornado with a explantion mark. The movie wasn't that great and there wasn't any tornadoes in it, well there was but, they didn't show them. Speaking of weather movies, I really wish people would stop putting titles such as Hurricane or, Typhoon that have nothing to do with a hurricane or,typhoon. It is misleading for us weather enthusiast. : )
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more!
DeleteBrenda, I totally agree with you about Speed 2... no one could ever replace Keanu Reeves (I have a thing for him...)!!! Haven't seen the other two.
ReplyDeleteI think we ALL have a thing for Keanu Reeves ... and he was smart enough to skip that movie!
DeleteAny movie about Satan or demons is too much. There are a lot more worthwhile things than those. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree.... enough bad stuff in real life ... why go to the movies to see it?
DeleteOh my gosh... I completely agree with your list! Those originals are all classics (yes, I said Speed was a classic, I watched it so many times when it came out on TAPE that I knew the whole movie by heart) and these were just sad attempts. AND! We went to see Exorcist The Beginning in the theater and, I kid you not, got up and left. First time I've ever walked out of a theater!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, and I just realized you can reply to comments now on Blogger! This is such a good day! :)
DeleteJennifer... you are so funny :)
DeleteWhile I haven't seen the first, I totally agree with your second and third entry...
