So much musings for this week....
Saturday started with a bang... well really a whimper. I was tired and I mean tired as I rolled out of bed on Saturday morning. Actually I didn't quite roll out of bed to start my day as my day has been starting at least an hour earlier than usual so that I can get some time in with my daughter at the other end of the world (Germany) so we Skyped BEFORE I left for downtown Los Angeles to hit the streets and assist in the feeding of the homeless. For some reason this week the volunteer count was much lower than usual and we were quite short handed which always leave me a bit short of breath when it comes time for the distribution routes to start (as some how or another I became put in charge of this little venture a while ago --- still trying to figure that one out as the only non Catholic working in a Catholic organization!) --
Anyway.... I heard a very funny statement (from one of the monks - no less) --- have you ever realized that the week starts out with a M and a T and then quickly goes to a W T F ???
Moving along....we went out onto the streets and the weather turned unseasonably warm for the first Saturday in October, yet we had more requests for blankets than blankets we had. AND everyone was requesting clean socks. You would be amazed at how many requests we get for socks! Think about that the next time you reach into your drawer and put on a clean pair!
Upon returning home Michelle and I Skyped again until she went to sleep promising to spend all day Sunday together on line.
Skype, Scrabble, homework and chores --- that is what Sunday brought .. and we managed to bring home just a bit closer. I will be joining Michelle in Germany from the middle of this week until early next week and will continue to keep things going from there. I have NO idea how I would be keeping any of this together without SKPYE!
Do you believe in Kismet? Fate? That all things happen for a reason?
I do... and I always have. . . and without jumping the gun or jinxing myself too much I believe that I am finally at a crossroads here and it is finally my turn!
I hope you all had a great weekend!
Have a great week!

Helping the homeless is such wonderful work! I was surprised last winter to discover that we have homeless here - in the midwest - in a small town of 20,000. So sad.
ReplyDeleteThere are homeless everywhere. The problem is that society would rather pretend that it doesn't exist!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with your comment to the commenter; there is homeless everywhere. My former church (we moved) started a rescue mission in the Temecula area, that was an eye opener to see that there were families that were homeless with kids in elementary school. My son befriended a homeless person that we helped out for a bit, having him stay with us at times, always feeding him when he was around. Unfortunately he stole this so very small amount of money from son's room one day when he was there alone (son off visiting girlfriend) and when given the chance to confess and wipe the slate clean, all forgiven, he wouldn't. So we couldn't have him stay with us any more (lost trust) but when I knew son was going to to see him, I'd send food for him.
ReplyDeleteI commend you on the work you do to help the least, the lost, the last of our society.
I am sure you are so excited for your upcoming trip!
betty
I do believe in fate.... I hope it it your turn... but I am so curious as to what you are referring too...
ReplyDeleteBetty...I commend your son on his huge heart... and shame on that person! Seriously... when someone offers a hand it should not be bitten off!
ReplyDeleteHilary.... later!!!
Brenda I am dying laughing at the Monk's comment. He's so right! I'll have to be sure to donate some socks to the needy this year. You wouldn't believe how much the small and simple things like socks matter. Especially when it starts getting cold out. Anyway, I want to wish you safe travels to Germany. Have fun spending time with your daughter! And kismet has always been one of my favorite words, and in some instances, yes I do believe in it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jade... I know about that joke... too too funny ... right???
ReplyDeleteI will keep all posted on my romps in Germany!
I definitely believe in kismet and fate. LOL about the end of the week being W T F.
